Stress Management Activities

There are several stress management activities that you can do in order to alleviate your feelings of stress. Below are just a few of the most common activities, but if you seek some advice from your doctor or medical practitioner I’m sure you will find one that’s just right for you.

So firstly an activity you could try would be Positive Thinking; although it seems silly at first, you will be surprised at how easily we get into a negative thought process.  The key to practising positive thinking is to talk to yourself inside your head.  When you catch yourself thinking negatively about a situation, try and think of as many positives about it as you can.  The glass is not half empty it is only half full.

I know this is not an easy thing to do, and you will feel silly for doing it at first, but after a while you will see that there are less negative thinking patterns and you will start to think more positively about life.  This can help a great deal in learning to deal with stress and overcome the tension that stress can bring.

Meditation; this is a form of relaxation that can be done anywhere.  It does not require a room filled with scented candles and oil burners.  You could quite simply meditate sitting on top of your bed, as long as the room is quiet and you can concentrate on your inner thoughts and breathing without distractions.  Most forms of meditation concentrate on breathing techniques and self concentration.  Learn to relax your body and mind and become more self aware.  Yoga is an excellent form of meditation and you can easily do it with a group or if you lack confidence there are many DVD’s on the market at the moment.

The final activity I am going to mention is a stress management support group.  Due to the levels of stress rising in today’s hectic society, more and more people are becoming sufferers.  If you do some research locally you may find one or more support groups for people suffering with stress.  When you are suffering with stress it can be very therapeutic to talk about your problems and what is causing you to stress out.  Knowing that you are talking to people who are also experiencing the same difficulties as you can also be a great comfort.

Remember it is important to learn how to cope with stress and find ways to relax and release the tension, or it may have a drastic impact on your future health and on those around you.
